Revisiting The Rixey In Ballston

A few years ago, Curbed Washington, D.C. published an article on, at the time, one of The Shooshan Company’s most recent projects titled Inside Ballston’s newest apartment development, The Rixey. The article discussed many features which include 267 residential units, all of which have “hardwood flooring throughout, stainless steel appliances, and floor-to-ceiling windows. Some units also offer balconies.”
On The Rixey’s official website, the amenities listed are:
- 15th floor rooftop featuring a clubroom with views of the DC skyline
- Roof top lounge with event kitchenette, grilling stations, and private cabanas with TV’s
- Roof top plunge spa and sun deck with views of the Washington Monument
- Expansive fitness center with Peloton bikes, yoga room, and cardiomachines

- Coffee bar
- Outdoor courtyard
- Bike repair station
- Fire pit to enjoy with friends
- WiFi throughout amenities
- On-site retail with outdoor seating
- LEED Gold Certified
- Short walk to the Ballston-MU Metro Station
“The name of the building was inspired by Dr. Presley Rixey, who previously worked as a personal physician to Presidents William McKinley and Theodore Roosevelt”, the article states.
About The Rixey
Part of the Marymount University “Blue Goose” re-development, 1008 N. Glebe was also approved on January 25, 2014. The project was controlled by the Shooshan Company via a ground-lease with Marymount University, providing over 260 apartments in a mixed-use environment with Marymount’s new campus, a great location for the entire market, especially for Marymount undergraduate and graduate students.
