Arlington County Receives Award for Community Planning and Growth
Published May 4, 2017
The American Planning Association recently awarded Arlington County with the Gold 2017 National Planning Achievement Award. Their website states:
“For more than 50 years, Arlington County’s General Land Use Plan has served as a guide for the county’s smart growth journey. During this period, the Virginia county has transitioned from a suburban, auto-centric collection of neighborhoods to one of the country’s most recognized examples of smart-growth, sustainable, and transit-oriented development while reducing commercial sprawl and conserving the quality and diversity of neighborhoods…”
In response, Arlington County released the following statement:
“‘In Arlington, we believe in long-term planning. Years ago, Arlington created a land use plan that values transit-oriented development, sustainability and walkability,’ said Arlington County Board Chair Jay Fisette. ‘Our success at planning remains rooted in that vision and in our commitment to community-based decision-making. County government and the community have together built Arlington into one of the nation’s best places to live, work or play.'”
The Shooshan Company is proud to be a part of Arlington County and would like to congratulate them on their success!
