County Board Approves ‘Blue Goose’ Redevelopment
The distinctive “Blue Goose” building in Ballston is heading for the proverbial wrecking ball after the Arlington County Board approved replacing it with an office and a residential building. The Board unanimously voted to redevelop the 1963 building, allowing the developer The Shooshan Company, in partnership with Marymount University, to build a nine-story office building and a 15-story, 267-unit residential building with 11 dedicated units of affordable housing.

A developer based in suburban Philadelphia’s Main Line is teaming up to help The Shooshan Co. build a new office building along the Rosslyn-Ballston Corridor’s Wilson Boulevard. Shooshan has formed a joint venture partnership with Radnor-based Brandywine Realty Trust to develop 4040 Wilson Blvd., a 20-story building that will be the last addition to Shooshan’s Liberty Center mixed-use project. Shooshan Plans $200M Ballston Office Building
A pair of major Arlington development projects are moving swiftly through the county’s pipeline. The Shooshan Co., the developer behind Arlington’s Liberty Center (formerly Founders Square), applied Aug. 22 for building permits to construct a 410,000-square-foot office building, with 8,500 square feet of ground-floor retail, at 4040 Wilson Blvd. in Ballston.
John Shooshan Named Outstanding Philanthropist in D.C.
John G. Shooshan has been named “Outstanding Philanthropist” by the Washington, D.C. Metro Area Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals. He was nominated by Volunteers of America Chesapeake and the Arlington Community Foundation for his work on behalf of the homeless population in Arlington, Virginia.
