LEED Certifications

Published June 30, 2021

Many people have questions about what a LEED certification is, so we wanted to take this opportunity to explain it. With many new development projects, you may see the following symbol or a variation of the symbol and wonder what it means:

LEED stems from the U.S. Green Building Council and as their website states:

“LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is the most widely used green building rating system in the world. Available for virtually all building types, LEED provides a framework for healthy, highly efficient, and cost-saving green buildings. LEED certification is a globally recognized symbol of sustainability achievement and leadership.

LEED is for all building types and all building phases including new construction, interior fit outs, operations and maintenance and core and shell.”

The Shooshan Company’s development projects must go through certain qualifications to earn a LEED rating. These ratings are also available for:

  • Building Design and Construction
  • Interior Design and Construction
  • Building Operations and Maintenance
  • Neighborhood Development
  • Homes

It is a great achievement to earn any of the LEED certifications, something we at The Shooshan Company have been honored with in many of our projects including The View at Liberty Center, Residence Inn by Marriott and more.
