Ballston BID Launches Podcast
The Ballston BID recently announced they will now have monthly podcasts hosted by Ballston BID CEO, Tina Leone. According to the website, "The BallstonConnect Podcast focuses on the hyper-local. Each episode features exclusive interviews with Arlington’s brightest personalities. New episodes will be released monthly, each one with an emphasis on a different facet of life in Ballston." DC INNO writes, "Debuting Feb. 1, the show is a spin-off of Ballston BID’s app, Ballston Connect, and the show aptly goes by the same name. Each month, CEO Tina Leone will chat with Arlington-based entrepreneurs and innovators. And, of course, the show is specifically focused on the Ballston neighborhood.
'Ballston has steadily evolved into a place where creative, ambitious and compelling people can live, work, and play together,' Leone said in a statement. 'We are so thrilled to finally share the story of Ballston through their eyes and to let our listeners hear about the amazing ways this neighborhood is transforming in real time.'"

Recap: The 94th Annual Arlington Business Gala
This past weekend, on January 27, 2018, the Arlington Chamber of Commerce held the 94th Annual Arlington Business Gala at the Ritz-Carlton in Pentagon City. The event included music, dancing, a three-course dinner, a silent auction and plenty of networking with friends and fellow business leaders. The 94th Annual Arlington Business Gala was a celebration of businesses in Arlington, and serves as the Chamber's largest fundraiser, helping them to continue their mission of strengthening businesses and the economic environment for those who work, live and do business in Arlington. Taylor Gourmet’s SP Double Stack Burger is Back in 2018
Taylor Gourmet, located across from Two Liberty Center at The View Luxury Apartments, has re-released their one-time burger as part of their "Winter Menu." The SP Double Stack, as it's called, combines two beef patties, American cheese, grilled onions, lettuce and "special sauce" in a sesame seed bun. When the burger initially debuted over the summer, it received many positive reviews, and this time is no different. Many who missed the one-week only burger before have been visiting the Taylor Gourmet locations in Washington, D.C., Arlington and Maryland to give it a try. For those wondering what it tastes like, The Washington Post was able to get some inside information from the owner and states that it actually tastes like a Philly cheesesteak disguised as a burger: "...'It's a little homage to the cheesesteak,' said Taylor Gourmet founder Casey Patten, a native of the City of Brotherly Love. After talking with Patten, I started thinking about our conversation. I sensed in Patten's tone that, despite my first impressions of the Double Stack, he and chef Jacob Hunter did not exactly set out to create a cheesesteak-style burger. So I put the question to Patten via text: Was this homage intentional or a happy accident? 'Happy accident,' he wrote back. 'We just wanted to create the tastiest burger we could. Maybe those flavors crept in subconsciously, but it wasn't the intention.' The accidental nature of the burger, to me, makes the Double Stack even more remarkable. It's as if the cheesesteak flavors are so embedded in Patten's DNA that he can't help it." Read the full article online here.

“Arlington Earns Nation’s First LEED For Communities Platinum Certification”
Arlington County was recently honored to earn the title of "Platinum Level Community." This was the first community to earn the title with the U.S. Green Building Council’s new LEED for Communities program. The Arlington County press release states, "The honor acknowledges the County’s long-time commitment to environmental stewardship and community sustainability and its many policies, programs and initiatives to create a more sustainable Arlington. 'Arlington County understands the value of LEED and its ability to help set goals and deploy strategies that can improve the quality of life for residents across the community,' said Mahesh Ramanujam, president and CEO of USGBC. 'Arlington’s LEED for Communities Platinum certification demonstrates a commitment to improving performance and creating a more resilient and sustainable future.' 'It is truly an honor, and a validation of Arlington’s commitment to sustainability, to be the first to earn LEED for Communities Platinum certification,' Arlington County Board Chair Jay Fisette said. 'This has been a community effort, achieved by having a vision of combating climate change and promoting energy efficiency on a local level, and putting in place innovative policies and practices to achieve it. Now, more than ever, the responsibility for progress on climate change rests with local and state governments and with the private sector.'"
